Germany plans to gradually remove components made by Huawei and ZTE from its 5G wireless network over the next five years, potentially straining its relationship with China. Mobile network operators, including Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, and Telefonica, have agreed to eliminate these components from their 5G core networks by the end of 2026. By the end of 2029, the components must also be removed from access and transport networks. The German government cited the need to reduce security risks and dependencies as the reasons behind this decision. Huawei stated that there is no specific evidence of cybersecurity risks in its technology. This move follows similar actions taken by other countries due to concerns over potential espionage.
